2024 DAV Swannie Awards
Lynn Chia (Year 12) and Isabella Thomas (Year 10) claim top awards from the Debaters Association of Victoria.
The 2024 debating season concluded with a positive reflection of the achievements of our hard-working teams. The B Grade (Year 11) and A Grade (Year 12) teams clinched finals spots with undefeated seasons. While the B Grade team were eliminated in the first playoffs, the A Grade team made it through to the quarter finals, where they were eliminated by Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar School.
The team put on their best debating performance, bringing a proud end to their school debating journey. The team have stuck together throughout the past few years, claiming finals qualification in consecutive years and peaking with a semi-final finish in 2022.
The Swannie Awards are given annually to the best speaker from each grade and region. Lynn Chia claimed the A Grade award for the Williamstown region.
At the award ceremony, Isabella Thomas was also invited to receive her gold medal for the Intermediate Public Speaking Competition. She delivered her speech on the importance of changing the education system to support neurodivergence.
