UPDATE and ADVICE on COVID-19 and SCHOOL OPERATING as NORMAL on Monday 16th March

Dear Braybrook College community members,

I wish to share with you the latest update and advice on COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease) received over the past two days from Dr David Howes, the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education and Training.

Dear Braybrook College community members,

I wish to share with you the latest update and advice on COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease) received over the past two days from Dr David Howes, the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education and Training.

“As you would be aware, the Prime Minister announced a number of measures earlier today (13.3.20) that all Premiers have agreed to, on the basis of the advice from Australia’s Chief Medical Officer and Chief Health Officers of the states and territories.

The measures do not include the closure of early childhood services, schools or higher education institutions.

As a result, all schools should continue to operate as planned on Monday (16.3.20) and unless and until any further directions are given.

In addition, it is important to note that one measure announced today was that all non-essential planned gatherings of more than 500 people should be cancelled from Monday.  Please use the following guideline until further notice:

  • Any school event that involves attendance by community members who are not students or staff (where staff includes support staff) and where total attendance will exceed 500 should not proceed.

This measure is intended to protect the health of our students and broader school community.

All school measures will also contribute to broader efforts across the community to contain and slow the spread of the virus over a period of what is going to be a number of months.”

As a result of this directive, I wish to advise that the college Parent Teacher Interviews scheduled for Tuesday 24th March are cancelled as are any camps or excursions which will involve crowds of more than 500 people.

Furthermore, the Department of Education and Training, working with the Department of Health and Human Services are providing all principals with daily updates which I will pass on to all community members in a timely manner.

Finally, may I remind everyone of the need to practise good hand and sneeze/cough hygiene.  e.g. wash hands often with soap and water and cough/sneeze into your elbow.

Warm regards,

Kelly Panousieris
Principal
