Each year, during Term 1, we hold a Welcome Luncheon for all our International Students. It is an opportunity for our new and continuing International Student to get together in a relaxed atmosphere and get to know and support each other. New students can learn from the experiences of those that have been at the College in previous years as they make their way in a new country, new community and new school. It was great to see how supportive the students, from all year levels across the school, were of each other.
As well as welcoming new students, it was a time for returning students, many of whom had travelled back to Vietnam over the holidays, to catch up socially.
As it’s a luncheon, food is a very important component. This year there was Pizza, Banh Mi with a range of fillings and lots of varieties of fresh fruit. This year, we held the luncheon in the VCE centre.
Many teachers, including the Principal, Year Level Coordinators and Sub-school Leaders attended the luncheon and mingled with the students in a relaxed atmosphere. It was such a happy gathering that several ‘non-International’ Braybrook College students attempted to gate-crash and join in the celebrations.
In a couple of weeks we will be going on our annual International Student Cultural Excursion. This year we are going to Melbourne Zoo, followed by lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant in Sunshine. It is always a fun day and yet another opportunity for our International Students from all year levels to get together, enjoy each other’s company and become more connected to their school community.
