Victorian Department of Education and Training welcomes international students from Vietnam. The College offers an extensive support program with experienced staff overseeing student wellbeing in their studies in Australia. Each year, the College accepts applications and maintains personal contact with families in Vietnam to report on student progress and ensure that students are having a positive experience at Braybrook College.

International Student Luncheon

Each year, during Term 1, we hold a Welcome Luncheon for all our International Students.  It is an opportunity for our new and continuing International Students to get together in a relaxed atmosphere and get to know and support each other.  New students can learn from the experiences of those that have been at the college in previous years as they make their way in a new country, new community and new school.  It was great to see how supportive the students, from all year levels across the school were of each other.

As well as welcoming new students it was a time for returning students, many of whom had travelled back to Vietnam over the holidays, to catch up socially.  Of course, the trips back home and the social get-together all took place before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.  As I write this article, it’s amazing to think of the changes that have taken place in such a short space of time.

As it’s a luncheon, food is a very important component.  This year there was Pizza, Banh Mi with a range of fillings and lots of varieties of fresh fruit.  The luncheon was held in the VCE centre.

Many teachers, including the Principal, Year Level Coordinators and Sub-school Leaders attended the luncheon and mingled with the students in a relaxed atmosphere.  It was such a happy gathering that several ‘non-International’ Braybrook College students attempted to gate-crash and join in the celebrations.

As I write this article, I am very glad that we held our annual Welcome Luncheon when we did.  Otherwise, like many other activities, it may have had to have been postponed or even cancelled for 2020 because of school closures.  However, it is one event that we managed to hold and that day, many students left with big smiles on their faces.
