The experience was enlightening, allowing each student to deeply connect with our guests over tea and desserts. The event began by sharing stories of travels to such places as England, Lebanon and Vietnam, as well as fond memories with family and friends.
As well as sharing stories, students gained insight into life in a community service role by talking with the residents’ caretakers. The event’s organiser, Kate Bywaters, works as lifestyle coordinator at Aera Life, planning fun and engaging outings for the residents of the retirement community. Through our discussions with both the community workers and residents, we were able to gain a clear understanding of how our knowledge can be applied, along with the potential fulfilment of helping others.
Thank you to the elders, Aera Life workers and our teachers for facilitating this wonderful opportunity!
